Sweetheart Holdings Inc. will be sold for about $441 million to an investment group that will also recapitalize the debt-laden company. The price was disclosed today in a registration statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission and reflects repurchase, repayment or assumption of debt. Acquired in 1989 Morgan Stanley led an investor group that bought Sweetheart's predecessor from the Fort Howard Corporation for about $620 million in November 1989 after an attempt to auction the company failed. The firm took a $29 million pretax charge in its fiscal first quarter, ended April 30, related to the proposed sale. The transaction will eliminate a 1990 loan that the securities firm made to Sweetheart.
