As a student at Dartmouth College in the late 1950's, Reginald Bartholomew starred on stage in both Greek tragedies and high comedies. Friends say that this kind of versatility might well stand him in good stead as President Reagan's newly designated ambassador to Lebanon. Mr. Bartholomew, who was nominated to the post today, has had difficult assignments before. In 1980, he negotiated the agreement for an American military base in Somalia. Just recently, he negotiated an agreement to keep American military bases in Greece.

CBS News paid $10,000 to two fugitive gunrunners to interview them for ''60 Minutes,'' according to the Manhattan District Attorney's office. CBS News said yesterday that it had not paid the fugitives, but that the money was for an intermediary's fee.
