US Supreme Court, ruling that 'members of the public have no constitutional right under 6th and 14th Amendments to attend criminal trials,' grants trial judges broad discretion to order courtrooms closed to press and public; 5-to-4 decision affirms ruling of NYS Court of Appeals, which had upheld power of trial judge to close pretrial hearing if he found reasonable probability' that pretrial publicity would hurt defendant's chance for fair trial; Court opinions appear to go considerably further; majority, although sometimes limiting discussion to pretrial proceedings, extends analysis to actual trials, thereby suggesting that they as well can be closed upon agreement by defendant, judge and prosecution; also, there is no requirement in Associate Justice Potter Stewart's majority opinion that judge, before barring public from courtroom, make preliminary finding that open proceeding will be harmful to defendant (M)
